Family Foundations

There are two common types of family organizations. One is a charitable foundation, the other is a family business.

A family charitable foundation is established for charitable purposes. A foundation is established in accordance with 501 (C) (3) of the tax code. Provided the funds are distributed to appropriate charitable causes, the family foundation continues to exist under 501 (C) (3). Such foundations are also helpful as an employer of family members who wish to run the foundation.

Additionally, families often establish a family business for purposes of coordinating wealth among family members and throughout generations.  Such family businesses are able to share expenses and manage professional coordination to provide for the needs of extended family.

If you have questions about charitable causes or business coordination for family purposes, feel free to contact our office at any time.
